The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is an international high-school robotics program organized by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). Each year, teams of students work with mentors to design, build, and program a large industrial-style robot to compete in a themed game. At the start of the season, teams receive a challenge and have only about six weeks to build their robot before competitions begin. The program combines engineering, programming, teamwork, and project management, giving students hands-on experience with real-world STEM skills.
During competitions, teams bring their robots to regional or district events where they play matches in alliances with other teams to score points in the game. Besides robot performance, teams are also judged on areas like innovation, teamwork, and community outreach. Top teams can advance to the FIRST Championship, the global event that celebrates the season’s best robots and teams. Overall, FRC aims to inspire students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math while promoting collaboration and creativity.
